Apple Pie

After the smashing result I had for the apple cake, I thought I can handle anything with apple. Apparently, I was wrong!!!

I thought to make an apple pie, because Steve loves apples, and also …. Hehe.. this will give me some excuses to finish off the tub of ice cream in my fridge. I must admit I am pretty clumsy and hopeless when it comes to pastry, but I have decided to make an apple pie from scratch, no cheating, no ready-rolled pastry involved. Eh-Hm , I am a serious baker, no shortcut alloweds ;-p (of course, I regretted afterward).

I found a recipe online and all the people that tried this recipe have noted this recipe as the best apple pie recipe, very easy to put together, effortless etc etc. I thought to myself, if it is that simple, I am sure I can handle it. Hence this is the starting point of my kitchen disaster.

The “effortless” recipe turned out to be bloody hard to put together, I struggled to put my pastry together and also lift the pastry up from my bench to the pie dish. I ended up having to use my hands to “force” the pastry to “live happily ever after” in the pie dish. I tell ya, it wasn’t easy to “combine” all the “broken” pieces of pastry ;-))

I think the recipe might be very easy to put together for the average person, but the point is I forgot that I am a below average baker. Next time, I should go for those “Dummy Pie Recipe” or may be .. I should just buy some ready-rolled pastry from the super market (sob sob).

Alright, my dear blog readers, may I present you my very first apple pie – Da Lah !!!

Pastry crust is my moral enemy. I'm going to try to get my little old grandmother to teach me a thing or two next time I visit her. However, I'm sure your pice tasted delicious, and it actually looks quite good, despite your pastry struggles. Have you ever thought of trying a cobbler instead? That's an easy way to use up fruit without the pastry struggle.

Hehe, don't forget to teach me after you learn from your grandmother ;-) hmm.. cobbler is a good idea, thanks!!

Well, the end result doesn't look like it was too troublesome, because it looks fantastic! I think all the work was probably worth it for such a great looking pie. :)

hey, your first pie looks wonderful!

you know what...when i read "EASY" recipes...i have always been skeptical...i am not sure if those are easy enough for idiotic beginners like me ^_^

it makes sense...cos i guess those who say they are "easy" are pastry chefs or experienced bakers hehehe

It doesn't look bad as you made it sound. Quite a nice pie. Ha I hate making pastry too I always end up making a jigsaw puzzle of the pastry and trying to see if there are any holes left in the pan. :) This looks good though.

Looks good to me! It's a first to everything. My girls and I love sweet potato pie more. Do you two like sweet potato? If yes, it's worth a try.

It looks fine from where I'm sitting, lol. Sorry the crust gave you problems, but don't give up. You can do it... just takes practice.

Maybe you can find some videos on youtube on "how to make pie crust" that will help.

It looks delish!

I would think that the apple pie tasted good even if the crust did not work out so well. I have problems with pie crusts as well. But I really like apple desserts so I stick mostly with crisps and crumbles. I am going to have to work on the pies though.

My first pastry crust experience is similar to yours. It won't hold together! LOL! but I bet it tastes great though! :)
