Perkedel

We had a great weekend last week, musical show on Friday night, movie on Saturday morning and … Steamrail ride on Sunday!! I love Wall.E , what a great cartoon!! Not much conversation but it was simply amazing!!

My Sunday steamrail ride was great, both Steve and I always enjoy the ride on an old style steam train, I know it is not practical but it is cool. I’ll share with you guys some pictures I took during the ride.

Now back to food blogging. I always adore Indonesian food - Soto Ayam, Bakso, Nasi Padang and etc. Among them, Perkedel is my favorite.

When I lived with an Indonesian housemate for more than 1 year, I learnt a lot about Indonesian food, I suppose it is quite similar to Malaysian food. When I saw the event held by Spittoon Extra, I know I just had to participate ;-)) After some planning and thinking (yeah, food blogging is such an important thing to me), I decided to make my favorite Indonesian food - Perkedel. It is very easy to whip up, and tastes heavenly. I was also told by my Indonesian colleague, that corn beef will work well with this recipe.

Ingredients:
3 potatoes
3 eggs, one to mix with the mashed potatoes
2 stalks of celery
5 shallots
200g minced beef
a pinch of salt and a sprinkle of pepper

Method:
Boil the potatoes and mash them.
Mix the mashed potatoes, celery, minced beef and shallots together.
Add salt and one egg to the mixture.
Shape potatoes like rissoles.
Beat two eggs in a bowl.
Before frying, dip the perkedel in the beaten eggs and then fry until brown.

I really love this one....pretty handy to have a hand blender to make this....I've always make this but I substitute the beef with fried anchovies because my mom can't eat beef...it still delicious and as tigerfish stated, I also put a lot of cilantro :)
