I stumbled through Mitong’s blog (One of the Taiwanese food blogger’ sites) weeks ago and was thrilled with all the recipes she shares in her blog. I have since been reading her blog everyday and checking out all her recipes. There are a few interesting recipes that I am so tempted to try. So stay tune, I will definitely try them out.
This is the dim sum recipe that was highly recommended by her, I was so tempted to get hands on, roll my sleeves up and make this savory pancake. The end results, as you can see on your screen, are absolutely delish.
These dim sums took me more than 40 minutes to prepare and I am not exaggerating. I am just too clumsy with rolling the pastry and shaping them. So forgive me for my ugly shaped dim sum.
Lynn, Duncan and my hubby loved these little savory dim sums. There were lovely!! The hint of black pepper went well with the spring onion and minced beef. Serve them for afternoon and you will be in food heaven.

Recipe: Savory Spring Onion and Minced beef Dim Sum
Ingredients:
Pastry:
2 cups of flour
2/3 cups of boiling water
Cold water
Filling (1):
2/3 bowl of Spring onions
3 tbsp of oil
1tsp of black pepper powder
Filing (2):
100g of minced beef
3 cloves of garlic (minced)
One shallot (minced)
1 tbsp of soy sauce
½ tsp of sugar
A pinch of salt
Method:
Pour the boiling water into the flour and mix it well with chopsticks.
Use your hands to knead the dough till it’s well mixed (add some cold water if you need). Cover the dough with a wet tower for 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a heavy frying pan. Add garlic and onion, fry until fragrant. Add in minced beef, stir in the sugar, soy sauce and salt. Stir fry till the meat is all cooked through. Set aside.
Wash the spring onions, dry them and cut into small pieces (you can even mince the spring onion if you wish).
Mix the spring onion with oil and black pepper powder.
Divide the dough into 2, roll the dough into 0.2 – 0.3 cm thick of rectangular shape (if you can, I must I admit I am useless with rolling pastry).
Brush some oil on the pastry, and then sprinkle some spring onions and minced beef on the pastry.
Roll up the pastry and cut them into 4-6 little dim sums.
Press the little dim sums lightly with your hands to hold the filling better. Lastly, heat oil in frying pan and pan fry the little dim sum till golden brown

Yeah, same here ;-))
Oh my! I'm drooling and there's no where near lunch time!!! I really love dim sums but I've never made them myself. Thanks to your great tutorial I'll definitely give them a try. Could you please tell me in how much oil should I fry them? About the amount that whould cover them halfway up? Thanks :)
Hi Lore,
Thanks for dropping by ;-)
hmm.. I used non stick pan to fry them hence only a minimal amount of oil was used, I think it was about 1- 2tbsp.
The dough was half cooked because of the boiling water and the minced beef contains certain amount of oil in there, so try not to use too much oil to fry them.Hope this will help. Let me know how it turns out if you do try this recipe ;-)
These look great...sorry to invade, I found you through my stumbleupon.
When you fry it, how do you work that exactly? I'm afraid of the filling falling out...
I'm about 250 kms away from any dim sum so making some myself would be fantastic!
i made em by following your recipe and it turned out exactly as it shows!
thank you :)
